A sewage treatment plant isn’t usually a ‘must-see’ for visitors, but Queensland Urban Utilities’ Innovation Centre is putting Luggage Point on the world map. The centre is an old heritage-listed building at Luggage Point Sewage Treatment Plant, which has been transformed into a thriving hub of world-leading research.

Westlab Projects worked with Queensland Urban Utilities from an early stage to design a simple and functional laboratory for the new Luggage Point Innovation Centre. The scope consisted of a full design brief for a heritage listed building as well as the design, manufacture and installation of a complete laboratory facility.

The Queensland Urban Utilities new laboratory project included our cabinetry package with multiple built-in fume cabinets, dangerous goods storage systems, under-bench trolley systems and Chemtemp Extreme bench top. A outstanding outcome resulted in simple modular benching system with bold service spines that offer plenty of cavity space for future service requirements.
